Summer is here…………………..

Once again our Annual Summer Party was a blast with old and new friends. We would like to thank all other clubs for their support and look forward to seeing you soon at upcoming events. As usual we had great food and drinks that were prepared and served by our Ladies Auxiliary, thanks ladies for all you do! The bike events, slow race, keg roll, cone race, corn hole toss and weenie bite were exciting and competitive. Congradulations to the winners. As anyone could see we have some very good riders so be prepared when you see our Colors pulling up to the starting line!  Live Rock-N-Roll set the party mood provided by The Drifters and BFE who as usual ”Rocked the House”  and got the crowd revved up for our famous Trophy Girl Contest Finale. We hope everyone who attended had a great time cause we sure did!  Stay tuned for our next upcoming event which is The Annual Run for Autism in which we hope to see you there,if not, stop by and say hey! Thanks again, ride hard and stay safe!

ALR 471Almost October already? Where has the summer gone?  Before I go too far with this, I want to thank everyone that came out for the Autism Run last weekend. Over 200 bikes and raised over $5,000 profit for the Autism Project of Southern Ohio. Great job everyone. And special thanks to those who rode 2 hours and more just to get here. We truly appreciate your taking the time to come.
As September comes to an end, I only show one run for this weekend, and I just got that info a couple days ago. Post 471, American Legion Riders on Gallia in Portsmouth is holding a benefit ride for Lacey Bevins on Sunday. Lacey is 4 yrs old and has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Proceeds will go to her family. There is a flyer in photo gallery, event flyers for more info. I also understand Post 471 is having a street sale on Saturday, not sure what that money is to be used for, but I know it’s not to buy me any beer, so it must be for some other good cause. BTW, anyone wanting to buy me a beer, feel free to do so at anytime, LOL.
October around the corner. There are some rides coming up starting with Posey Ridge Boys Oktoberfest in Beaver on the 2nd and the big run of the year, PMC Leaf Run on October 17th. These runs and others are listed in events and most have flyers in photo gallery.  Keep your jackets, gloves, etc. handy as the weather turning cooler does not mean it’s time to park the bike. Some of the best riding of the year is in the fall. Just dress accordingly and you’ll enjoy the beauty of fall as only a biker can. The sights, the smells, the crispness of the air. Hope to see all of you on October 17th at PMC. Stay safe and RIDE!

The Annual Run for Autism will be this Sunday, Sep, 19th, at Tracy Park in Portsmouth. All proceeds go to the Autism Project of Southern Ohio. PMC is proud to once again partner with Portsmouth Fire Dpt. for this event. A $1,000 guaranteed payout to be divided among the top hands in the poker run. All makes of motorcycles are welcome. Food, live bands, door prizes will be there for your enjoyment. Last  year the weather did not cooperate, so this year a good turnout is really needed to help fund this very worthy cause. Forecast is sunny and 80, so please make an effort to attend. Some are anticipating over 200 bikes, so everyone will be talking about it. You don’t want to be saying to yourself, “wish I’d gone”.  So come out. Tracy Park is at Rt. 23 and 9th Street in Portsmouth, across from Krogers. See you There!

911Nine years ago we witnessed the most horrific attack ever on our shores. Never forget.
Two local American Legion Riders are doing runs this Saturday, Sept. 11th. Post 471 on Gallia in Portsmouth will start and end their run at the National Guard Armory on Coles Blvd. in Portsmouth.  Be there to personally thank current Guard Members and enjoy a great ride for our veterans. Contact post 471 for more info. 740-354-4714.
Ironton American Legion Riders will start and end their run at Frogtown in Ironton. A live band will play later in the day there also. Another great run for our Veterans. Flyer in photo gallery , event flyers of this website with more information.
Hope you can make it to one of these events. Ride safe and remember we ride free thanks to our military, for it is the Soldier, not the politicians, who guarantee our freedoms.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Ironton Rally On The River. I know we did. This weekend is another rally that is a bit more laid back and all for a great cause. The Gerad Maggard Memorial Children’s Charities (GMMCC) will host the 5th annual Gerad Maggard Memorial Rally this weekend in Carter County, KY. The flyer gives you most information. The poker run will  pay $300 for top hand and the bikini contest $100 to the winner. Great band line up. Free camping. Check out the flyer and come on down all weekend or just for Saturday when all the events except the bike show (Sunday) takes place. I (Groundhog) will be there working the gate, mc’ing and anything else I can do to help. All money raised is used by GMMCC to help local families with children who have life threatening illnesses. GMMCC puts on poker runs and other fund raisers all year for this purpose. So pack your gear, your cooler (dry county so bring your own, lol) and come on down. Don’t want to bring the bike? No Problem. Enjoy the fun and entertainment and help out this very worthwhile organization. Hope to see you there, Groundhog

Rally EventsRALLY ON THE RIVER THIS WEEKEND! NEED I SAY MORE!!

PeanutAugust is here already?  TheGallipolis Hog
summer is flying by. So don’t let that bike sit when it can run. Don’t mow grass when you can haul ass. Don’t  find yourself  looking at the bike this winter saying “I wish I’d ridden more this year”. Get out and ride! Anywhere! Just Go! Need some ideas? Well here’s a couple.  A benefit ride in Delaware Ohio that honors one of our Military Heros, Sgt. Shannon Smith. Also a ride that starts at Texas Roadhouse in Ashland, Ky and ends at The Laidback in SmithHanging Rock Ohio to benefit a fellow biker, “Peanut”, who had a bad crash recently. Both of these runs are on Saturday. For Sunday, Gallipolis H.O.G. will host the $2,010 Poker Run and Bike Giveaway. Information on all three can be found on the flyers in our photo gallery, event flyers album.  So get off your butt, strut your stuff and put it all in the wind. Remember, STAY SAFE AND RIDE!

100_6756Before I list this weekend’s events, I’d like to thank everyone that helped the Patriot Guard Riders with the SGT. Justin Allen funeral in Coal Grove. This past Sunday we escorted the family to Huntington airport and escorted his body to the funeral home. We had over 50 bikes and support from WV State Police, Ohio Highway Patrol, Lawrence County Sheriff and Ironton Police. Monday, over 80 bikes attended Jusin’s visitation with many standing flag line outside the high school. On Tuesday, there were again over 80 bikes at his funeral service helping with the flag line and escorting to the cemetary. A great show of respect for this young Army Ranger who died at the age of 23 on his 2nd tour of Afghanistan. Our prayers for his family and friends in their time of grief.
Now what to do this weekend?  Saturday there are three local runs. In Coal Grove at Wade’s Western Wear, BFC is sponsoring a benefit ride for Devon Hamilton. Sign up at 11am, run at 1pm. At Frogtown in Ironton a benefit run for Homer Morgan, sign up at 11am. And in Portsmouth is the Ride for Hospice at the Hospice Center near SOMC, registration at noon.
There you have it. Glad I don’t have to choose. I’m working nights and will be sleeping Saturday away.
STAY SAFE AND RIDE!!

Last weekend there were several things going on all over the place. PMC participated in the Ride For Life in Wellston, Ohio and took largest club honors for the 3rd, or was it 4th?, year in a row. This weekend there is run sponsored by Gerad Maggard Childrens Charities way up in Coshocton Ohio on Saturday. I will be riding up for this one if anyone cares to join me, email me throught this website. On Sunday there is the Bozo Bragdon Memorial Ride in Wheelersburg. Flyers for both runs are in photo gallery, event flyers album. Next week there are several things happening. Info on them can be found in the photo gallery also. Every stay safe and good luck dodging the summer storms.

R and CWhat most thought was a typical Sunday PMC ride, turned out to be a surprise wedding at the old covered bridge on rt. 348 in Otway. Ruggy and Carla were untied by Rev. Roy Bennet from Bikers For Christ in front of about 30 or more friends, brothers and sisters. Congratulaions to the newly weds and we wish them the best. I assume the wedding was not a surprise to Ruggy, LOL.
This weekend there are a bunch of events going on. Check our calendar and our event flyers in photo gallery and find one to your liking. Everyone stay safe and ride!

BOTW PartyFirst of all want everyone to know that Sleepy is out of the hospital and doing fine. He wants to thank everyone for the well wishes and all the visitors he had.
Plenty of events coming up this summer. Adding more every week as I get them in. Be sure to check the events page at least once a week to see what is happening. Have at least three this weekend, including a run with our friends at Broken Arrow in Piketon. Next weekend, May 21,22 and 23 is Brothers Of The Wheel annual party at The Swamp in McDermott. Always a great biker party that lasts all weekend with camping, biker events and much much more. See the events page on how to get more information on that.  Whenever I have a flyer for an event, I also post it in photo gallery, event flyers album. Be sure to inform us of any runs you may have going. We will be happy to post the information here.
Looking like a beautiful weekend for a change, so get out and get some wind therapy. It’s good for the soul. Stay SAFE and RIDE!

SleepyGot word this morning ‘Sleepy’ is in SOMC with some heart problems. I heard a stress test. Also heard stints put in. I really have no idea for sure. But he is for sure at SOMC. If you can stop by I’m know he’d appreciate it.  Our prayers and best wishes to him for a speedy and complete recovery.

100_6399WOW! Can’t recall the last time we cancelled a run, but in the interest of safety it had to be done. This was not just a rainy day, but a major storm day. High standing water in the roads, continuous heavy downpours and washouts on roads from hillsides and driveways created a very dangerous situation.  Thanks to everyone who intended to come and we look forward to seeing you down the road. Our next planned event is our Summer Party on June 25, 26 and 27 at The Swamp in McDermont. More details on that to follow. Hope everyone has a had a safe dry day.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Holy Rollers Motorcycle Ministry is having a poker run in Grayson, Ky. on Saturday the 24th. Details in our events calendar. And then on Sunday, the 25th, Bikers For Christ will have services and a bike blessing in Minford, Ohio. Details on the events calendar. Looks like a rainy weekend, but that’s no reason to sit at home. Last year, if you didn’t ride in the rain, you didn’t ride, lol. So you should be use to it by now. Good luck to both groups on their events.  I’m on my way to buy some giant storage bags so I can steal some of that good pork from the wedding reception.
Stay Safe And RIDE!!

Lost TribeLast night was the Meeting of The Minds hosted this year by Lost Tribe MC in Chillicothe. I was unable to attend but PMC was well represented. I await news of the meeting. We want to thank Lost Tribe for the generous hospitality. It is always a pleasure visiting with them. I will be adding the runs discussed at that meeting to the events page in the next week or two. If you have any information on runs or other biker events, email us and we’ll get it posted. Come on SPRINGTIME!

Ghost AuctionLooks like another storm coming and we may not miss this one. Why not spend this Saturday night (Feb. 6th) at our clubhouse for the Women’s Auxiliary Ghost Auction and Dinner. Dinner at 5pm, auction immediately follows. Bid on plain wrapped packages and win anything from free nights at a local motel to a box of rubber bands. Never know what you get. Thats the fun of it all. And the money is used by the Women’s Auxiliary to support local charities. I am honored to once again be the auctioneer, so come down and have some fun with us!

Clean StarJanuary is almost over. Looks like we dodged the big snow storm they were calling for. Can’t wait for that warm weather to arrive. Only, what, two-three months?  OMG, That’s a long time. Going to have to see if I can talk to that Groundhog they call Phil up in PA and get some global warming our way soon, lol. At least Nascar is only a couple weeks away. Stay safe! BTW, the pic is to remind us of days to come!

Leather BootsDAM!!! It’s Cold Outside!!  Don’t know where these two lovely ladies are, but wish we were having that kind of weather in Portsmouth NOW!!   Hang in there everybody! Spring is, uh, well, never mind. I need a BEER!!

HOJOWhat a great Day!! (Pics available in photo gallery) Cold!!! But lots of fun. We had a great turnout inspite of very cold temps and some very bad hangovers. We rode to the Ohio River for the Polar Plunge sponsored by The Blockhouse Bar. Some of our members participated in a dip in the icy cold water. Then back to the clubhouse for a warmup before riding to The BriarPatch in Lucasville for some ice cream!  When we returned to the clubhouse we had hot soup, coffee and other beverages and snacks for a party type atmosphere. Thanks to everyone that came out. Watch for information on our Pancake Breakfast to benefit local veterans. This will be at Applebee’s in New Boston and is tentatively scheduled for April 3rd.

Polar RunWe have had a ride on New Year’s Day for many, many years. Recently, part of the fun has been to go to the riverfront and watch, (a few of our members have even joined in), the Polar Plunge into the cold Ohio River. After the plunge, we regroup at the clubhouse before riding out to Lucasville and everyone eating ice cream. Outside of course. Come join us. The ride is free and leaves at 1pm, but we will start gathering by 11am so we can go to the river bank first. Happy New Year!!

Toy Run PicPortsmouth Motorcycle Club will host their annual Toy Run this Sunday, the 20th.  Ride will leave clubhouse at 1pm. Ride will go to their office in New Boston to deliver. There is a drop box at Pat’s Bar on 2nd Street in Portsmouth and there may be one at Family Dollar in Lucasville as well as Advanced Auto Parts in Portsmouth. Please help if you can. See you Sunday on bike or in cage.

bell The bell ringing is over. Our thanks to the community for all the support. Donations were down about 10% from last year, but that  is understandable with the economy and all. We’re hoping for a great Toy Run for Scioto County Children’s Services. Our run leaves our clubhouse, 101 Front Street, at 1pm on Sunday, the 20th. Bring an unwrapped toy of at least 10 dollar value or a monetary donation. We will ride to New Boston to deliver all the toys and cash. I understand a drop box is at Family Dollar in Lucasville and Advanced Auto Parts in Portsmouth. You can also drop off at our clubhouse. Contact us with any questions you may have. Our email is portsmouthmc@yahoo.com

GMMCC Toy Run Saturday, Nov. 14th and Sunday, Nov 15th was great riding weather and many of our members took advantage of it. On Saturday, some of us rode to Grayson, Ky to participate in the 1st Annual Gerad Maggard Memorial Toy Drive. Others, rode up to Chillicothe and visited with our friends at Lost Tribe MC. On Sunday, about 20 riders rode to Athens and some others went in other directions as well. Our Friday night meeting went well and the Auxiliary also held their monthly meeting. The Auxiliary is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for members and family at the Clubhouse at 5pm on Sunday, Nov. 22nd.  Contact any officer or email us at portsmouthmc@yahoo.com with any questions.

Portsmouth Motorcycle Club hopes you like our new site. Come back often as there will be continual updates happening.  We launched this new look on Tuesday, November 10 2009. We want to be the go to place for the  biker that is looking for motorcycle related events in the area. If you have information of any such event, email us with the information at portsmouthmc@yahoo.com  If you have  a flyer, attach it also so we can post in our photo gallery and refer to it from the events calendar. We also post all flyers we receive on the outside bulletin board at the clubhouse. Ride by and check it out anytime.  Speaking of our photo gallery, we currently have over 6, 000 pics taken at our events and rides.  Check it out and watch here for updates. Bikers For Charity will begin ringing bells in the streets on Friday after Thanksgiving. All money raised is split between New Boston Police Department and Portsmouth Fire Department. Every penny is spent on those in needs right here in our community. Not a dime for adminstrative costs. All this is done by volunteers and it is truly a labor of love. Keep your change and dollar bills handy on that day and please give what you can comfortably afford.

Be seeing you!!

NEWSLETTER, OCTOBER 19TH, 2009

I guess the first thing on everyone’s mind is “how did The Leaf Run go?”  I am happy to say it went very well. While the cold temps of the preceeding week and a high of only about 50 on the day of the run did reduce the crowd, it was still a very good turnout.  176 riders on 139 bikes registered to ride a beautiful route on a beautiful sunny day.  Knowing everyone would want to be heading home before it got too late, we shortened the route to 50 miles and had everyone back at the clubhouse before 3pm. Gave away some really great door prizes, raffle prizes and the 50/50 winner also received a new leather jacket.  We also held a mini rodeo with a slow race, ball pick up and straw drop. We want to thank so many people for braving the cold to join us. One rider rode in from Nashville, Tn. and took home the longest traveled trophy. He was one cold biker when he stopped by the clubhouse Friday when he just go into town. Thanks, ‘Coke’ , for coming up and joining us.
The summer went by very fast and very wet. Not sure how many days I rode without getting rained on, but not near as many as the ones I did get rained on. Our Spring Run was all day rain. The Autism run was all day rain. The Bologna run to Waldo was an all day rain with some really heavy downpours. But we endured because we love to ride and we knew rain and 80 degrees is better then dry and 30 degrees, lol. To all those that rode with us on Sundays and joined us for our sponsored events, we thank you very much and can’t wait for next summer to come along.
The only event we had that did stay dry was our 116th Anniversary Party at “The Swamp” near McDermott, Ohio.  It was a great weekend long event with four wheeler racing, bike events, live band, great food, free camping, vendors, wet tshirt contests and much more. If you weren’t there, you really missed a great time and all for only 10 bucks!  I understand the club plans to start doing this every year, so watch for details next summer!
Looking ahead, it will soon be time to ring the bells as part of Bikers For Charity, and to hold our Annual Toy Run. I understand there will be no fly in at Spartan Stadium this year and that applications for assistance must be turned in at New Boston Police by November 1st. Not sure how Portsmouth Fire is doing it, so check with them soon if you’re in need of some assistance for your family this year. Our first day on the street ringing bells will be, as always, the Friday after Thanksgiving Thursday. Let’s hope it don’t rain. OR SNOW!. Although, we have noticed many people give a little more when they see us withstanding a cruel shot of Mother Nature, so makes it worthwile. Keep that change and dollar bills handy so you can donate freely and often. We appreciate all the support the Bikers For Charity always receive year after year.
We do have new Portsmouth Motorcycle Club  lapel pins available. They are slightly smaller then the old ones and are only $5. This will be reflected on the website soon, meantime see your nearest PMC member for your new pin.
Guess that about does it for now. I hear a prediction of 70 degrees in a day or two. Think I’ll have to get a little riding in while it’s still bearable. See ya on the road!

STAY SAFE AND RIDE!!
